Methods for a political art from Puerto Rico

Methods for a political art

Abdiel D. Segarra, and a group of Porto Rican new artists present: "Modalidades para un arte político desde Puerto Rico". It will take place in the art fair Zones, directed by Charo Oquet and was summoned up by the project Edge Zones. The intention of this exhibition is the evaluation of the distinction that has been made between politics and art. methodspoliticalart"Methods for a political art from Puerto Rico" meets the political speech of contemporary plastic art that in appearance could seem radically contrary.

The intention with this encounter is to erase that line of differentiation and to present the art as a project where politics is expressed throughout nature. Besides, it establishes the manifestation that making art is in itself is political. The artist as a human being that publicly comments when he displays his work is a specific proof of the political possibilities of a person that lives in society; to recognize you rself as a person with the power and freedom to comment, is to recognize yourself as a person with politic power.

This Project is a declaration against the segregation. Its priority is to validate and raise the politic character of the human being and his manifestation in art. We are responsible of our bodies, society and governmental structures, we must only recognize that responsibility within ourselves. "Methods for a political art", gathers the work of: Marielis Castro, Osvaldo Budet, Karlo A. Ibarra, Vanesa Hernández Gracia, Javier Maldonado, Gabriel Meléndez, Rafael Miranda, Jacob Charles Marchosky, Josué Pellot, Puntos Suspensivos, Filipo Tirado . It will be presented in the art fair Zones at Edge Zones Contemporary Art 2214 N. Miami Ave. Miami, FL 33127, from December 6 to the 10th, 2007.
